Engagement Rings through The Times

It was originally believed that the third finger of the left hand was directly connected to the heart by veins. This is why engagement and wedding bands are traditionally worn on this finger. This started as far back as the Ancient Egyptians. The Romans wore rings around their necks attached to small keys, representing the marriage bond between the two individuals. Diamonds being included in the first engagement rings started among nobility, royalty in particular.

The Victorian era is considered to be one of the most romantic time periods due to the loving relationship between Queen Victoria and her husband Albert. Engagement ring styles during this time were ornate and romantic. Here are a couple of our rings that resemble pieces from this time period.  Click on any picture for more information about the rings.

At the end of this era the Tiffany setting was introduced. This setting was able to boost the diamonds brilliance, which in turn, made a diamond engagement ring more popular to wear and readily available to most.

In the 1920’s, color and geometric patterns were the trend. Here is one of our ring’s in that particular style.

During the World War II era, big, bold feminine styles with ribbons, flowers, and bows were extremely popular.  Platinum was used to help with the war efforts, so gold was used more frequently.

The stackable look became the thing when Audrey Hepburn got married. This look is still going strong today.

After seeing engagement ring styles through-out the ages, you can see many of those styles are popular still today. A few new trends making some pretty big statements currently are:

Bypass Rings-Victorian Era

Horizonal, Unconventional, East to West Rings

Oval and Pear Shaped Rings

Baguette Rings-Art Deco

Two Tone Combination Rings

Floral Cluster Rings

So, as you can see, these looks are completely timeless. Come on over to our store in Round, Rock, Texas. Our cases are open, which means you can try on everything you wish with out feeling pressured or rushed.
